Climate Maps of Australia

These maps are produced by the Bureau of Meteorology and show the average conditions across Australia for a range of climate variables. The maps are for:

The 30-year period from 1961 to 1990 is the standard reference period as defined by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The standard reference period is used by the international community to maintain consistency in calculating climate statistics across the world. This enables the direct comparison and analysis of climate statistics from different countries. Most of the maps presented here use this standard reference period as the base for calculating the climatic averages.

A secondary reference period exists from 1976 to 2005. This period is considered more descriptive of the current climate and is the base for some of the maps presented here. Other maps may use a different period because of logistical reasons. The next standard reference period specified by WMO will be from 1991 to 2020.
